Employment Opportunities

During our summer season, Memorial Day through Labor Day, our staff grows to 18 full-time staff members. The average tenure for seasonal staff is 2.5 years. Year round positions are usually chosen from seasonal staff members.

The positions listed below represent approximately 8 new openings that will be filled for the summer season of 2014.

The Hiring Process: Our hiring process is ongoing with the largest thrust happening between January through April. We accept resumes year round. You will receive a notice of receipt when we receive you application.

Because of potential employees changing their minds, and other uncontrollable circumstances, there inevitably is some hiring that takes place between April 15th And May 1st. The priority in which we select staff positions is more or less as follows: reservationists, outfitting specialists/drivers, cabin maintenance and then guides.

Position Openings for Summer 2014

Sea Kayak Guides: Instruct 1/2 - 6 day sea kayaking trips/courses in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.

Pay: $65-120/day depending on experience, plus employee purchase benefits and opportunities for high level training and internationally recognized certifications.

Requirements: 18 years old, wilderness skills, paddling, and camping history, 1st Aid & CPR. kayak certification, and/or guiding experience. Guides are required to have excellent leadership, communication, and people skills.

 

Assistant Sea Kayak Guides: Assist/Instruct 1/2 - 6 day sea kayaking trips/courses in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.

Pay: $60-100/day depending on experience, plus employee purchase benefits and opportunities for high level training and internationally recognized certifications.

Requirements: 16 years old, wilderness skills, paddling, and camping history, 1st Aid & CPR. Guides are required to have excellent leadership, communication, and people skills.

 

Outfitting/driver: See above description, responsible for the safe transport of customers and clients to and from put-in and take-out sites.

Pay min. - 10.00/ hour d.o.e. Plus employee purchase benefits and an opportunity to live and play in the northwoods environment on the shores of Lake Superior.

Requirements: Same as above, but must be 21 years old and have a clean driving record.

 

Outfitting Specialist: Assists customers & guides with the checkout of equipment, maintenance and repair of equipment, and shuttling clients to put-in and take-out sites.

Pay-min. - 10.00/ hour d.o.e. Plus employee purchase benefits and an opportunity to live and play in the northwoods environment on the shores of Lake Superior.

Requirements: Applicants must be 16 years old, have current drivers license, clean driving record, ability to do medium physical labor, and excellent attention to detail. Good mechanical skills with experience in fiberglass repair, vehicle and bicycle maintenance are a plus.


Reservations/Retail Assistant: works with customer information and trip/course bookings.

Pay min. to 10.00/hour d.o.e. Plus employee purchase benefits and an opportunity to live and play in the northwoods environment on the shores of Lake Superior.

Requirements: 17 year old minimum, sales or customer relations experience, detail oriented, computer literate, good phone skills, keen interest in the outdoors & in people.

 

Housekeeping and Maintenance: We have four cabins that we rent by the night. It is housekeepings responsibility to clean these cabins, do laundry, and mow the grass.

Pay-min. - 10.00/ hour d.o.e. Plus employee purchase benefits and an opportunity to live and play in the northwoods environment on the shores of Lake Superior.

Requirements: 15 year old minimum, housekeeping experience prefered.
